Went down to Hayling as I was meeting a friend on neutral territory. The 12.00 forecast for Wight and Portland was 5-7 so I was surprised to see (at 12.00) that others were out on big kit. They were big guys so I stuck with the 5.5. I was thinking I should have brought my wave board as it was obviously windy.

Launched about an hour after high water and there were lovely big swells for smooth sailing, though as the tide dropped it got more choppy. Nonetheless there were lots of nice big ramps all afternoon. I counted about 40 people on the water towards the end of the afternoon. All abilities too, with a few brave souls uphauling in testing conditions.

Generally the rain held off, most of the black cloud going inland, though there were a couple of showers that came through.

A really good and very windy day after a couple of disappointing outings (which I couldn't be bothered to log here). One or two really good gybes in difficult conditions. I should have changed down to a 4.7 but apart from the gybes it wasn't a big issue being on the 5.5.

Four or five stars? I think 5. Friday 13th too! And a brilliant full rainbow over Guildford on the drive home.
